Together with Dr. Soroudi and Dr. Jafari, we are guest editing a special issue of MPDI’s Energies journal on the topic of “Integration of Hydrogen Technologies in Renewable-Energy-Based Microgrids.” We look forward to receiving your submissions by the end of April 2021!

English writing tips
As I notice my students often making the same English mistakes when writing papers, here is a list of some useful tips from the University of Purdue’s Online Writing Lab (OWL):
- How to connect different sentences with transitions?
- How to use articles (a, an, the, etc.)?
- How to use prepositions (at, in, on, etc.)?
- How to use punctuation?
- Active and passive verb tenses
- Making subjects and verbs agree
Another issue is not mixing US and UK English:
Some issues are also related to people’s mother tongue:
DATAZERO workshop
The DATAZERO project, funded by the French national research agency (ANR) from 2015 to 2019 aims to design a MW-scale datacenter supplied only by local renewable energy. As the project end is nearing, we organized a workshop at FEMTO-ST in Besançon and Belfort on this topic on October 14-16, 2019. This workshop brought together academic and industry participants from France, Europe, and North America.
In Belfort, we had the opportunity to have a tour of the FCLAB hydrogen facilities, of Extendo’s datacenter, as well as a demo of our power hardware-in-the-loop testbed used in the project.

Microgrids summer school 2019
On 1-5 July 2019, we organized a summer school at UTBM in Belfort on the topic of microgrids with the support of CNRS, GdR SEEDS and the HAEOLUS project. The event gathered 28 participants from several European countries and included Ph.D. and master’s students as well as researchers and professors.
A series of lectures by academic (Colorado State University, FEMTO-ST/FCLAB, L2EP, G2ELAB) and industry (SINTEF, General Electric, Enedis) speakers provided the participants an overview of microgrids and their current challenges. A week-long project proposed by Typhoon HIL enabled participants to learn about hardware-in-the-loop by using dedicated software and hardware.
Social events were also organized to facilitate sharing ideas and networking, as well as discover Belfort’s strengths in the energy sector. See the school’s website for more information.
